Web Author Description
webLongDescription Patrick Heron (1920-99) was one of the most important British artists of the post-war period. This documentary shows Heron reminiscing about his life, his artistic development and the artists who inspired him. The film is partly shot in Cornwall, where he lived for over thirty years, and from whose landscape he derived much of his inspiration, and partly around an outstandingly successful retrospective exhibition at London's Barbican Gallery in the summer of 1985. As each painting is examined, the artist's personal style is analysed, and the viewer can enjoy to the full his mastery of colour and bold abstract forms. As the artist reminisces, the film gives a unique insight into his life and development. The final section shows him in his St Ives studio as he set out to create a major new work in his 'garden' series - a fifteen-foot canvas painted during the course of one afternoon as the cameras turned.
