Author Description Joseph Ketner
Uri store/art/andy-warhol-9780714861586/
Web Author Description Specializing in post-war European and American art, Joseph D. Ketner II has curated many exhibitions and published numerous books on such artists as Bruce Conner, Jean Dubuffet, Bruce Nauman and Roxy Paine. Over the past decade, he has produced several exhibitions on Warhol. In 2009, he curated the first interpretation of the artist’s long-ignored late work in ‘Andy Warhol: The Last Decade’ as well as the exhibition ‘Image Machine: Andy Warhol and Photography’ in 2012. He is the Henry and Lois Foster Chair in Contemporary Art, Distinguished Curator-in-Residence, at Emerson College, Boston.
webLongDescription Andy Warhol (1928–1987) captured the popular culture of his age through his iconic drawings, paintings, films and prints. He made as great an impact on the world of art as any of his contemporaries, ushering in a fundamental transformation in our visual culture to the mediated image. Yet perhaps his greatest work was his own identity; in his quest for fame and fortune, Warhol fashioned himself into a media superstar. This illustrated survey spans the entire array of Warhol’s art, from his paintings of Campbell’s soup cans, Brillo boxes, dollar bills to his multiple portraits of such American stars as Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley. Examining the scene at Warhol’s studio – the famous Factory – as well as his forays into film and multimedia ‘happenings’, this book is the perfect introduction to his life and work.
