William Hall trained at Central Saint Martins in London and began his career in the office of the minimalist architect John Pawson. Hall now runs his own design practice in London, working with clients such as Calvin Klein, the Henry Moore Institute and Tate. Dan Cruickshank has written extensively about Georgian architecture and has focussed on the crafts of building, including – in particular – brickwork. During the last fifteen years he has travelled extensively making programmes for BBC television including Under Fire; Around the World in 80 Treasures and Adventures in Architecture. During these worldwide travels he documented many of the world’s most ancient and most significant brick structures. Formerly a Design Director at Phaidon Press, Hall now runs his own design practice in London, working with clients such as Calvin Klein, Henry Moore Institute and Tate. Leonard Koren has written and designed a number of books including Wabi-Sabi for Artists, Designers, Poets & Philosophers. In 1976, two years after studying architecture at UCLA, he founded WET, one of the premier avant-garde publications of the 1970s. He now consults on the subject of design, aesthetics, and communications. He lives in San Francisco. Richard Mabey is a writer, broadcaster and naturalist and the author of some forty books, including the Whitbread Award winning biography, Gilbert White (1986), and Beechcombings: the Narratives of Trees (2007). For twenty years he was the custodian of an ancient wood in the Chilterns, South East England. Mabey currently lives in a sixteenth-century half-timbered farmhouse in Norfolk. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, and a visiting fellow at Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
